Troma

Troma is the oldest independent film production in the world - since 1974, they produce infamous features like “The Toxic Avenger” (1985, introducing, in a very very small role, Marisa Tomei) or, lately, the fast food zombie flick Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead (2006), both written/directed/produced by Lloyd Kaufman - who is also the author of Make Your Own Damn Movie!, a DVD set for independent filmmakers, complete with advice on ‘getting a cast and crew for no money’. Incidentally, Troma was the first company to make a Miyazaki film, “My Neighbor Totoro”, accessible to a wide audience in the US.
In Germany, trash filmer Sonja M. Schultz is using her working experience with Troma for her company, apocalypstick productions (together with Gabriele Sophia Boerges) - her own, often rather gory ‘films against the end of the world’ include, for example, “the lovers” (2002/3) or the “dead guys” trilogy (in progress). Her script for “the lovers” can also be found on the website, and some of her film reviews on the great German film page critic.de.
